This Cachikel Maya marimba band plays on the streets of Antigua Guatemala, the colonial capital of Guatemala.
I don’t know if the marimba originates in Guatemala, or elsewhere, but the Maya have “made it their own”. The sound of the marimba simply makes me smile.

These Maya boatmen, near Santiago Atitlan, on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, in Central America, use dugout canoes for harvesting the reeds that grow in the lake. They use the reeds to make baskets, rope, and mats. In the distance, you can see some corn fields, many quite steep, on the foot of the volcano. Corn is the staple of the Maya diet.
